Relay for Life Iosco County - Kick off is at 4:30 pm, Saturday, April 29th.  The event kicks off the event by celebrating everyone who's been affected by cancer.  Survivors Lap will begin at 6:00 pm., Caregivers Lap will also be 6:00 pm.  Luminaria Ceremony will begin at 9:00pm, with the Closing Ceremony following at 9:30pm.  For info please call (800)227-2345.


Iosco County Right To Life - Focus on Life Benefit Dinner. Iosco County Historical Society Presents - Our Heritage 2017 Lecture Series Wednesday,

April 26,2017.  When Amelia Earhart Came to Michigan.  Michigan Historians Al and Dave Eicher will tell the real life story of the many times Amelia Earhart traveled to Michigan to promote the aviation industry and opportunities for women in this field.  All programs are at 6:30 pm, at the Iosco County Museum, 405 W. Bay St., East Tawas, MI


Comedy for a Cause - The final comedy show is being held Friday, and Saturday, April 28th and 29th at the APlex in Alpena.  Friday's show will feature Mike Armstrong and runs from 7 to 9 pm, with music following the show performed by Randy Bouchard.  Tickets are $10.00 per person or $15.00 per couple.  The Friday night show will benefit the FOP of Alpena, as you know the FOP serves in many ways to benefit the Alpena community.  The Saturday night show will be the same as the previous shows with doors opening at 5:30 pm, for the famous Tony burgers and live music begins at 6 pm with Randy Bouchard.  If you are interested in reserving a table please call Denise at (989)354-6164.


Free ORV Safety Class - A free off-road vehicle (ORV) safety class will be held Saturday, April 29th, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. It will be held at the Footsite groomer barn (old fire hall), located at the intersection of River and Rea Roads in Oscoda.The class is sponsored by the AuSable Valley Trailriders.  Parents or guardians may attend the class but space and class materials are limited.  To pre-register call Hanson at (989)739-4711.


Spaghetti Dinner - TracyJo Blata Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser, Saturday, April 29th from

"FIRST BLOOD" the Thrill of Roller Derby is coming to Aplena - On April 29th, the Shipwreck Alley Roller League will make history and debut as Alpena's firs roller derby teams.  The doors open at 6 pm at Norther Lights Arena (751 Woodward Ave., Alpena, MI. The league's two teams the 45th Paralyzers and the Shipfaced Seagals, will compete against one another in a quest of track domination.  General admission tickets are $6.00 (upgradeable at the door), and a VIP ticket is $10.00 online or $12.00 at the door.  Tickets can be purchased on line at http:/  Tickets are available at local businesses in the area.  Following the bout, the teams will celebrate at a public After Party at the Fresh Palate's Nucleus Lounge beginning at 9:00 pm.


East Shore Wind Symphony - The East Shore Wind Symphony will be performing in Standish on April 30th, at 3:00 pm., at the Standish-Sterling Central High School auditorium.  Tickets will be sold at the door the day of the show and cost $8 for adults, $5 for students, $3 for K-12 band students.  For more info visit or contact the Northeast Michigan Arts Council at (989)846-9331.


End Polio Now - Oscoda Rotary and Interact Clubs present a Spaghetti Dinner, Monday, May 1st from 4:30 - 7:30 pm.  The dinner will be held at Wiltse's Restaurant, 5606 F-41, Oscoda. Ticket prices are Adults-$12 per person, Pre-teens-$6 per person, Pre-school-free, or $30 for a family.  Door prizes drawn hourly (need not be present to win), also hourly 50/50 drawings!  This is a fundraising for Polio Vaccinations.


Mini Beach Acrylic Painting - Peggy Trabalka with instruct the beginner to intermediate painter in this enjoyable little workshop.  Wednesday, May 3rd, at 6:00 pm.  It will be located at Truly Yours, 116 N. State St., Oscoda. Peggy will guide you through step by step to achieve your minature masterpiece.  The finished size is 3" x 3", and the cost of the workshop is $35.00 and includes supplies.

AuSable Valley Audubon - 11th Annual Tawas Point Birding Festival is  May 18th thru May 20th., at the East Tawas Community Center located at 760 Newman St. in East Tawas. Festival participants enjoy some of the best birding in the Great Lakes region.  Tawas Point is well known for high concentrations of migrating warblers during the month of May.  Along with multiple Warbler species, there are numerous raptors, shorebirds, and more.  Nearly 200 species were recorded during the festival weekend in 2015.  Don't miss out, spots are limited!  You may email for info at


Cause for Paws - 6th Annual Cause for Paws Poker Run is set for Saturday, May 20th, which supports the Iosco County Animal Shelter.  The event is being hosted by the Oscoda Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3735.  The ride will both start and finish at the post, which is located on US 23 in Oscoda.  Two wheel, three wheel, four wheeler, or any wheeled vehicle may participate at a cost of $10 per person.  Sign up will begin at 10 am., and riders can leave immediately after registering.  The course wanders throughout the area, showing off the beautiful Iosco County country side.  Hot dogs, chips and beverages will be provided at a cost of $1 each.  There will also be raffles for the many gift items donated in support of the shelter and the event.  Anyone with questions, or who wishes to donate to the cause, can contact Tomi at (989)305-2857 or Crazy at (989)820-5703


Mark Negro Memorial Scholarship Run/Walk - 5K Open Run/Walk, Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 9:00 am at Adams & Sunset (across from the Hilltop), check in is at 8:00 am with the race promptly at 9:00 am.  Early entry received by May 12: $25.00, after May 12 & Race Day Entry $30.00. This benefits the Oscoda Education Opportunity Foundation & The Compassionate Friends of the Oscoda Area.  The funds will be used to increase the yearly scholarship awarded, in memory of Mark, to an Oscoda Graduating Senior who plans to enroll in a vocational education related program.  To date we have awarded $59,000.00 in scholarships.  You can register online at

Iosco County Historical Society Presents "Orphan Train In Michigan" - The presentation will be Wednesday, May 24th at 6:30 pm, at the Iosco County Museum, 405 W. Bay St., East Tawas.  From 1854 to 1927 about 12,500 orphans were place in Michigan, many from the New York Children's Aid Society.  Come ride with us on the "Baby Train" traveling the route of the Michigan Central Railroad.  Free program, refreshments will be served.


15th Annual Nor-east'r Music & Art Festival - June 9th thru June 11th, in the middle of Northeast MI on the Oscoda County Fairgrounds, 1689 Caldwell Rd., Mio, MI.  Music, Art, Workshops, Jammin, Instrument Giveaways for Kids. Quota International of Iosco County - Food Sampling at it's best. The 24th Annual Gourmet Delights, Sunday May 7th, 11:00 am unti 2:00 pm. East Tawas Community Center, on Newman St., East Tawas. Health Quest Inspiring Community Health and Happiness -  Enjoy a beautiful, 5K Beach Run/Walk, along the sandy shoreline of Lake Huron. This is one of the only runs in the state held entirely on the sand!! Kiwanis Club of Alpena and Alpena Booster's Club - Are sponsoring the "FLAG PROJECT", and they are looking for help.  The goal is to honor fallen veterans with the "Heroes Avenue of Flags" which will line the Alpena Bi-Path from the Evergreen Cemetery to 11th Avenue.  Each flag will be marked with a memorial plaque.  The flags will be placed 5 times a year.  Cost is just $50 a year.  To make a donation to honor a fallen soldier, or for more info call Judy at 989-354-3543


Please Drop Off - Miner's Grove at the corner of Miller & Wilber roads is collecting soda can tabs.  Proceeds benefit the Shiners' Hospital.  The tab is the only pure aluminum part of the can....the can it's self can be returned for your deposit.  But please remove the tab, and help children through the Shiners' Hospital.
